Dervious flew swiftly over the tops of the trees within the loner territories, a thick, ancient book clutched between his claws as he looked down. Rain fell swiftly and heavily upon him making his scales glisten and his fur heavy and dripping with water. His ice-blue eyes scanned the ground below for the landmark he sought until at last it came in to view. The cave of which his good friend Wynd lived.
Dervious glanced next to him to where his mate flew beside him just as determined. At this point he wondered how he would have ever survived without her! She had ideas swarming within her head he would never think about! And he planned on making many of those brilliant ideas, a reality. Thunder rumbled above almost as if to let the two know that the storm was about to worsen...

"Odd tome..." Syrenea muttered, glimpsing at the book Dervious held. They had only recently found it - over the past two years, they had travelled all over the dragon's world, and occasionally examining bits of the human world by going through the Gate. They didn't do that often, though - it was far too dangerous; what if humans saw them? It could completely alter the humans' world. In their travels, this book had made it possible to go into the humans' world without much danger, however.
Many things had changed in the short span of two years. Syrenea knew how to read and write now - only very difficult and obscure words were confusing for her now. But that didn't change anything else about her - she was smarter, but she was still the same kind, loving girl from Thyrval. She still was a girl of simple pleasures, as well, and one of those now was simply being with Dervious. She loved him with all of her heart, and though they had decided they weren't exactly ready for chicks, she loved him all the same. Besides, it had been a year ago when they had decided that, and that was when they were still beginning their intellectual journey. Now, maybe, they could truly become mates. But that wasn't anything to think of yet. Inside, she was all jittery - she couldn't wait to see Wynd and his chicks and mate. But there was one thing that was always present in the orange dragoness' mind.
She was mortal - her father mortal, and her mother immortal. Was she mortal, or immortal? Would she die? Would Dervious, with his unending life, one day forget about her? The mere thought brought tears to her eyes, and she decided to think on it no more.
"I can't wait to go back to the human world. We only got a look out of the forest last time..." She said, faking a smile. Anything to get her mind off of her mortality.

Dervious had let his eye wander over the ground once more, searching the distance as well. He had heard Syrenea's words that she muttered and felt a smile tugging at his scaley lips. "Sometimes even the most odd things can help you in times of need and curiousity," he said his ice-colored eye twinkling with mischief. And then he felt a sudden pang of sorrow from deep within and he tore hi gaze from the ground towards Syrenea. That was where the sorrow was coming from. "Are you alright?" he asked, his voice gentle but caring. That was one thing that he was glad they shared. Their emotions, what they felt about things, whether one was nervous or the other was furious. And with that, Derviou hoped that it would never disappear so that he would know when he needed to help the one he loved.

"I...I..." Syrenea looked away from Dervious. How could she tell him? It wasn't that she was so existential as that, but she had fear. Dervious was immortal, and she was half-immortal. Did that blood give her immortality, too? She didn't want to die someday and leave Dervious behind. She looked at him - they were soulmates, but they hadn't actually committed the mating act like Wynd and Decylia. Syrenea hadn't brought it up, but in truth, she was terrified. So many things could happen. She feared for their eggs if they had any after their first mating. If they had none, they could try again at a later time, but it was safer that way, and they still would have shared the bond that came from it. And what if she died? She didn't wnat to mate with him and then die someday. And...what if she wasn't beautiful enough? Sure, she would have liked the physical gratification part of it, as would Dervious, she was sure, but was she good enough? Sure, they were soulmates, but she was just an average girl.
She was just an average dragon from Thyrval, the desert. Sure, her orange scales were exotic, but was she really good enough for Dervious? He was an ancient dragon, and she was only out of adolescence. Surely he had seen more enchanting beauties, talked to smarted dragonesses than her. So why? What right had she to be his soulmate? Sometimes she felt so out of place. She could read now, and write, but still she was hardly a scholar. She was still the healer of Thyrval, the bold girl from the desert.
She found herself landing, wiping tears from her eyes. There was no reason to worry him. She knew it was stupid to try and hide anything from him, but she would try anyway.
"We're almost there." She said quietly when he landed beside. "Want to walk the rest of the way? My wings ache."

Dervious furrowed his scaley eyebrows as he landed beside Syrenea. What was wrong? It wasn't hard to tell that she was upset, she wasn't even acting cheery as she might normally do. The immortal dragon snorted, clutching the thick tome in one of his hands as he moved closer to his mate, gazing over her searching for some invisible area where her sorrow focused on. "Hey..." he said softly, lowering his ead so he was eye to eye with her. "What's wrong?" he asked, putting one of his wings over her as if to shield her from any bad problems that would cause her such sorrow.
Power seemed to emanate from the tome in his claws. It was surely an object of power which could not possibly be found in any other places save for where he had borrowed it. That was for sure and if anyone ever found it, trouble would quickly arise especially if in the wrong claws. That was why Dervious had sought it. Trouble was arising, plants were dying from the lack of sun, sure they had water but what would dry it up? And if the food that dragons ate died away which was more or less other animals, then they, too, would die.
His grip on the book tightened at the thought of loosing Syrenea to a starvation from the Evil Alliance's foolish greed. That would not happen. He would be sure of that. Ahead, Dervious could barely see out of the corner of his eye, the blackness that told him he was nearing a cave despite the cover that the trees provided. Perhaps Wynd could possibly help him. He'd been in love longer than Dervious obviously had, perhaps he could aid him in such an area as Dervious knew basically nothing relating to a dragoness and her emotions.
